As you may know, my connection to Type I diabetes is my only child, J.P. McWatters. J.P. was diagnosed with T1D, at 13, on February 16, 1983. This is the day that his regimen of up to five finger pricks a day to test his blood and two or three insulin injections a day began. J.P. is now 46 and a virologist with the FDA. He has been fortunate as he has only had one very serious hospitalization, when he spent four days in ICU. He had entered the hospital with a blood sugar of 1000 (for you and me, a normal blood sugar would be 90-120). Since 2000 he has worn an insulin pump, one of the many advancements made possible by research supported by JDRF.
Please help me raise money for JDRF Fund A Cure, which is a unique opportunity to donate directly to research and fund the
science that will transform charity and change the lives of our friends and families
with type 1 diabetes.
